Looking to buy 2 small 7' max, lightweight boats for me & my wife. Small budget, nothing fancy. Used should do us just fine. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
7' is very small, the only boats i know of that small for adults would be whitewater kayaks and they would paddle hard on flatwater. there are a cpl sit-on-tops around that length but they are very small for adults. There are a cpl 8.5' that would be better, but I would look in the 9.5-10'range of rec boats there are many nice boats(sit-on-top and sit-inside) in that range and some as low as $200-$300 new(esp if you find a sale(try Dick's). as for used boats, online is probably your best option, there are kayak groups on facebook that post items for sale sometimes and craigslist is awesome(i got a sweet used(barely)boat from there), and there are also local yardsale webpages. another option for inexpensive used boats is anywhere that rents kayaks(there's lots on the maine coast)they are always selling and replacing rentals(usually at real good prices). or you could try an actual kayak shop like Contoocook canoe ect...
