A campsite has been developed for paddlers' on an island immediately across the river from Lyman Falls State Park and just upstream of the breached dam at Lyman Falls.
Land on the south-west side of the island, adjacent to the breached dam, and follow path to a large clearing with picnic table and fire ring. A box privy is located 100' up a path to the north.
This site was revitalized in 2018, during a workday in honor of William Schomburg, a long-time Columbia resident who helped conserve this land.

A rough gravel road through a small quarry leads to a picnic area and river access just below the breached dam at Lyman Falls in Columbia, NH, with parking, a moldering privy, and picnic tables, and a beautiful cobble beach with excellent swimming and fishing.

The most dangerous remains of the breached Lyman Falls dam were removed in 2022 through an effort led by the Connecticut River Conservancy. One section was left and capped with boulders to help maintain a popular fishing hole. However, at high water, the waves may still be capable of swamping open boats. Scout or portage this Class II drop on river left (land on the island). If you are planning to spot at Lyman Falls (VT), you may want to run the rapid on river right.

The site is immediately downstream of granite railroad trestle, on the Vermont side. Land on a beach and follow trail north to campsite on former railroad right of way. Look for picnic table and fire ring. A privy is located is located to the southwest.

The breached Wyoming Dam is a hazard due to rebar jutting into the river. A take out is located immediately upstream on the Vermont side. A portage trail takes paddlers acros Route 105 to a put-in downstream of the dam. Land by stone steps above bridge. At high water, it is possible to take-out slightly upstream in a small cove. Follow trail up steps, across Route 102, and down to sandy beach. Please be considerate of adjacent landowners and stay on the portage trail.

Warning - river levels can rise unexpectedly here - by as much as 3'! Do not leave unattended gear close to the river, and listen for sirens.

Public access is permitted via the river only. Please stay within campsite boundaries.
